Often in the case of trauma a blockage emotionally, results leaving the traumatized stuck in the moment of the trauma and unable to move on emotionally and psychologically. This often is seen resulting in flashbacks, nightmares, phobias, panic attacks and general anxiety.
EMDR(tm) is a safe effective way to get balance back emotionally and psychologically by reprocessing the stuck information and allowing normal dynamics to continue. Eye movements are just one way to kickstart the processing of the information that caused the trauma. If there are eye problems the treatment can be given using audio or kinetic means .
The standard EMDR protocol is delivered in six sessions and might take more or less depending on the therapeutic relationship and support. EMDR sessions usually take 90 minutes each.
Eye movement technique and other self soothing interventions can be taught in addition so the patient can utilise the techniques at anytime to help with situations in life. The therapy called EMT which means eye movement technique but can be by means of sound or touch Or FFD which stands for focal fovea desensitisation can also utilised during the session.
Supportive counselling is advised after having any eye movement intervention therapy.
